A tag is an attribute of a criterion. Tags provide a more flexible way of grouping criteria than using the categories which may be part of a methodology. For example, one could use tags drawn from the category structure in another methodology, or tags of local, national or international significance.

For example, in Pick&Mix (1.2 and 2.0) each criterion is tagged with one of the MIT90s categories. However in Pick&Mix 2.2 each criterion is also tagged with:

  • one of the HEFCE Measures of Success - to facilitate reporting to HEFCE
  • an OBHE category - to facilitate international comparisons.

There is also scope for adding a further home nation tag (e.g. for a future Welsh scheme) and an institutional tag.

Tags will often be codes for categories rather than names of them - in order to conserve space and allow for automatic processing.
