Mangahigh is a free, games-based mathematics teaching resource, where students can learn and practice mathematical skills via “purpose-built … games that balance fun and learning,” according to the website.

Each game covers certain learning topics and is designed to adapt in difficulty to the ability of each student dynamically, to ensure that students stay in their zone of proximal development.

All Mangahigh games have a meta-objective that the players strive to achieve by repeating a simple step over and over again. By overlaying the game mechanic with the core learning concept, “we’ve invented the new and more efficient way of learning for the new generation,” the site’s creators say.

The site is targeted toward students ages 7-16, and its games are based on the Common Core standards. Educators receive their own login, where they can track the progress of their students

The service was founded by an experienced team of mathematicians and game specialists in the United Kingdom,

Its web site is http://www.mangahigh.com

Evaluation

Mangahigh was "Current Site of the Week" in eSchool News for 9 November 2011 - http://www.eschoolnews.com/2011/11/09/mangahigh-offers-free-online-games-to-help-students-learn-math/

One teacher reports:

The pupils at my school absolutely love this site and very glad they bought it. The non uniform money at our school goes to the student council to spend on whatever they want and they’re very happy with their decision. The pupils are studying a lot more maths at home independently and even doing topics they’re not studying currently. They love seeing the competition between the school and very proud of nearly being in the top 10 schools in Britain….only 4 more points!! The recent changes are amazing with the games being made specific to individual topics. I’ve had the laziest pupils who refuse to stay for extra help saying they love the site and go on it a lot at home.
