The word "level" is used in various ways:
- as a word which was used for dimension in early versions of eMM
- as shorthand for transformation level in the MIT90s-related work of Venkatraman
- to give a general sense of what a particular score (like 2) means
In our view it should be not now used in meaning 1 - the correct word there is dimension.
Nor should it be used in meaning 3 - certainly in Pick&Mix there is no sense in which a particular score is of significance beyond the criterion in which it occurs.
Thus we recommend that level is used to mean transformation level. In that sense it is increasingly only of historical interest.
