KNUST established in 2007 its Institute of Distance Learning, developing the satellite university model - https://www.knust.edu.gh/news/news-items/knust-makes-great-strides-in-distance-learning.

In fact as early as 2005 KNUST decided to provide Distance Learning as an alternative for workers who desire higher education but do not have the time to enrol for conventional regular education. They are pleased to observe that "Ten (10) years on, IDL-KNUST has become one of the finest academic institutions providing quality distance education in Ghana, West Africa sub-region and the Gulf Area."
