A term used by eMM to mean a group of processes (criteria or indicators in other schemes) in a particular area. The eMM categories are:

  • Learning
  • Development
  • Support
  • Evaluation
  • Organisation

The MIT90s framework, as first used at Strathclyde and then by four Phase 1 institutions - and as adopted by Pick&Mix 2.0 - suggests another set of categories:

  1. external environment (regulatory, market, external stakeholders)
  2. strategy (organisational)
  3. individuals and their roles - staff and students
  4. organisational structure
  5. technology
  6. management processes

Other methodologies such as OBHE have slightly different sets of categories.
