Many but by no means all benchmarking methodologies applied to e-learning accept that many benchmarking criteria should be scored, that is, ranked on a numeric scale. See scoring.

For each score, the criterion usually has a scoring statement, typically of one sentence, describing how the score is achieved.

For example, Pick&Mix criterion P06 e-Learning Strategy has for level 3 the scoring statement

  • e-learning strategy produced from time to time, e.g. under pressure from HEFCE or for particular grants

In eMM, processes do not have scoring statements, but practices do. (Practices are very similar to process-oriented Pick&Mix criteria - not all Pick&Mix criteria are process-oriented.)
